Peanuts, almonds, dried peach on the nose. Rich, sour Mandarin orange taste. Fresh, firm, balanced acidity. The grapes were hand-harvested, then de-stemmed and macerated on skins for 6 days. Fermented in a combination of steel and fibreglass, then aged in neutral oak and stainless steel. No sulphur added, unfined, unfiltered.
Starting out with making wine for family consumption and grapes to sell, in 2008 Carlo Tabarrini started Cantina Margo. He began with 0.5 hectares from abandoned or neglected vineyards in Umbria, and has grown the business to about 3 hectares. He enjoys his "simple space to ferment grapes in peace, without too much technology" and produces delicious, honest macerated wines.
